Albacore 2011 Season

Sam Catches The First Albacore

The hunt hunt for the abacore fishing is on! Our own Sam kicks off the albacore 2011 summer season on the Royal Star during our 8-day charter. The charter left on 6/2 and won't be back until 6/12. Can't wait to hear all the fishing stories.

A Note from the Captain of BFG:

MULTIPLE SPORT BOATS HAVE ALBACORE & BLUE FIN TUNA AT JUST OVER 200 MILES . . . ALL SAY WATER CONDITIONS LOOKING VERY GOOD.

In the past few days several different San Diego Sport Boats have caught both blue fin tuna and albacore. The water in the area is around 63 degrees and very clean. Blue fin tuna in the 80 pound class have been spotted crashing on bait. The albacore caught have been on both trolling jigs and live bait. Fresh albacore has also been showing up in the local super markets meaning the commercial jig boats have been getting them also. The long range weather is showing good signs of being warm and fairly calm which may break down a colder band of water just south of Colnett. If this happens it will not take long for the tuna to fill into the canyons off of Ensenada. It is time to get ready!
